CNC SIG: Vacuum Clamping

Dallas shared details of the vacuum clamping system available in the Shop. He also has built his own systems and told us about that experience and some additional vacuum use cases such as with CNC hold down, degassing, and bagging veneer. We finished off with Q&A.

@dkeck, and all others involved in putting this on and posting it here. I was not able to attend the original meeting, but I have found this video to be very helpful. I really appreciate your time and effort in putting this on.

That said, could you put together a list of parts (like the foot switch and HDPE) so we know what we need to buy?

Thanks!

How many people would be interested in a guided build?
In such a scenario we buy together and we build together.
It’s usually done off of a BOM and under the eye of experience.

On a related note, here’s the link to the DIY Vacuum Press Plan.

The problem is, we can’t get to the shop to use the CNC. I may have to reconsider my decision to not buy one of those for home…

Ed,

If you’re considering a CNC then block your Saturday morning, April 25 at 10:00.
We’re working to produce a programmed tour of four home CNC solutions.
They’ll range from a $1,200 CNC to a $25,000 five axis monster.

Watch for it to be posted on PunchPass just as soon as I get final confirmations.

Have you had any problem with the wood bending under the vacuum pressure?
