I have used a 3M tape left over from my engineering use as fixtures for 3D measurements. It is thin and pretty aggressive. On some woods it will pull the grain up when removing. What have other users had good results with and where to buy it.
Michael, I have tried several brands from Amazon, The Home Depot, and elsewhere and cannot offhand tell you the names. I have yet to find a flawless brand. I will state this - the recent one with a green and white label, like several of the others, leaves adhesive on the wood. Trying to clean it off with brush cleaner, paint thinner, acetone, or other chemicals changes the wood so clear or semi-clear finishes are blotchy and bad. As a result, if it is a clear coat product I am using cleats to hold my 3D projects to the sacrifice board.
Not much help, sorry,
Rex

Available on Amazon. Haven’t tried it, though.
I recently used Hippie Crafter double sided woodworking tape that I bought off of amazon and it worked great. Held strong and didn’t leave any residue, at least for me. I was using it to hold templates to boards to be routed and kept using less each time I applied to a new piece
