3D Printed FaceMask - COVID Response

A colleague of mine printed a facemask with his 3D printer. He indicates that it was straight forward. He got the idea from a Dentist in Montana that is trying to support people with the shortage of masks. I know Travis was talking about masks. Not sure how well it works but in the interest of sharing thought I would pass this forward. The website also discusses the filter material.

Here is the version my friend printed.

I think this may be an item that would feel more comfortable with the Ninjaflex Susan has been discussing. Maybe she can print one and let us know…

This design plus Ninja Flex could be a winner.
The one I’ve printed does not contour well to the face.
From Susan’s demo, either could benefit from it’s rubbery nature.

I know Doug is printing the Montana Mask with filter right now.

Hopefully he’ll weigh in with what he’s learned.

Looking forward to seeing how his turns out. My friend lives in Washington, so I couldn’t actually touch and feel his. He said it is OK, but would not be comfortable for extended wear.

I just made one… Out of PLA and using MERV13 filter material.

it would be better with a small amount of flex( PETG?) but it fits well and doesn’t hurt.
1 layer of MERV13 is easy to breath, 2 layers is slightly noticeable but not a problem.

That is awesome. I will need to try this out in the next day or two. Do you think it would be more comfortable printed in the Ninja flex Susan discussed in the Hangout session earlier this week? Did you already have the Merv13 material or did you purchase?

Not sure if it needs to be as rubbery as NinjaFlex but yes, more comfortable with a bit more flex.

I ordered the MERV13 filter from Amazon a few days ago: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P9FX2N4
