Basics and advice for a newbie

For advice to newbie woodworkers - e.g. If I were to create a very bare-bones woodshop that I could supplement with our community shop, what are the most useful tools to buy? Or stories on how you got started in woodworking/the most useful tips you’ve learned.

Pictures too!
Which tools did you add first?
What’s your starter home shop look like?

For me it was probably a foldable work bench that I could tuck away when not in use. The Black & Decker Workmate series has been in my shop since the start. Not only can you work on it but it’s also a clamping system. I still pull it out occasionally because I need that extra surface area for a project.

Really depends on what you are interested in doing. If you want to make puzzles, then a scroll saw would be optimal; if you want to start furniture building, then need to decide on hand tools vs machine tools, to complement your goals. No matter what, a clean shop bench, adequate power and lighting is a must.

So I guess that’s your answer? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
