Shop Tours - Member CNC Machines

Usually it would be hard to move between three home woodshops to see the equipment of three members. With Zoom, we did it in 75 minutes and were given great insight to a seriously upgraded Shapeoko XL, a CAMaster Stinger, a Legacy Maverick and a couple of Next Wave Shark CNCs.

How about the video of your day at Legacy for training?

new here. not sure how forums work. I think lou has cnc maverick. Ive been looking at 2 cnc’s. one is maverick 3x5 and a camaster 3x4. right now both are having good deals. maverick is 15,000. i liked the build on camaster better but maverick has better turning capabilities. Need to talk to someone soon. deals about to expire. thanks Don

What questions do you have on Turning (aka 4th axis)? By the time you have the 4th axis and other recommended accessories the cost is close enough. One thing I like about the camaster is the height. I mounted mine on a custom bench, saved a few bucks, and the base holds very large drawers for storage.
Regardless of which machine you go with, I would recommend a class on the theory of 4th axis CNC. There are some good lessons to be learned from the training rather than learning the hard way (i.e.breaking things). I sent you an email if you specific camaster questions

A few days ago, in the aftermath of the Member CNC Machine Tour, I ordered a Shapeoko XL for myself. I thought it was worth noting a few things here for anyone else considering…

They are currently shipping with their own Sweepy Dust Boot (I know this one is not really popular with some). I ordered mine with the Z-Plus accessory for accuracy similar to Mark’s.

Most interesting @mstook, they now ship with HD eccentric nuts and steel-core belts, upgrades you mentioned that you had done yourself. So, I hope that this will wind up being quite accurate.

Waiting on the front curb for the delivery… It’s only coming from Torrance…

Those are all distinct upgrades. The Shapeoko didn’t used to ship with any dust boot and, as we learned from Mark, steel-belted belt and hefty eccentric nuts will really tighten things up. As for waiting at the curb for delivery, go back inside. The Shapeoko ships from Edward’s shop in Illinois … sorry.
