I’m trying to design an animatronic pair of eyes from a design made using hot glue and wood.
The parts I’m calling the ‘eye sockets’ and then the puppeteering ‘crossbar’ guide. Initially making them 2 different parts so I can experiment with the distance from the back of the eyesockets to the crossbar and later will JOIN them in the design.
My workflow went like this but I’d like to hear what others might do since learning a difficult way to get somewhere thinking it’s good leads to more effort down the road on other ‘trips’.
eyesockets:
sketch in the XY plane
literally outlined the cross section using 2 circles then 2 arc lengths outside of that where I constrained the outside arc end points with 2 parallel lines.
I then extruded this.
To cap the ends to house the hole guides for the strings I fixed thin cylinders to the end surface and then pocketed holes.
finally I filleted edges
crossbar:
sketched a rectangle then extruded it
sketched on the end surface the X shaped part and extruded in opposite direction
pocketed holes
finally I filleted edges.
How might you approach this?
